The Steltman's chair was created by Rietveld at the age of 75 and was originally designed for the interior of the Steltman jewellery shop in The Hague (The Netherlands). An asymmetric open chair consisting of heavy rails and posts, simple and solid, an indication to the chairs he designed in the beginning. It is known that 'sitting' was a verb for Rietveld. His chairs are not really comfortable to sit in. It is as if he was very stern, not only in measurements and colour combinations. Rietvled also created an upholsterer version.
